Rudra The Remover of Sorrow
From ancient times, Rudra worship has held a central place in Hindu tradition. In the Vedas, the Ramayana, the Mahabharata, and the Puranic histories, Lord Shiva is frequently addressed as Shri Rudra. As the commander of the Rudras, he is also revered as Maha Rudra. Though the term “Rudra” primarily denotes Shiva Himself, it also represents his various manifestations and dynamic energies. According to Shaiva Agamas, the five divine principles—Brahma, Vishnu, Rudra, Maheshwara, and Sadashiva, emanate from Parashiva. These five preside respectively over creation, preservation, dissolution, grace, and ultimate absorption. Shaiva Tantras describe that the universe arises from Kalagni Rudra and ultimately dissolves back into Him. In Sanskrit, the phrase “Rut (du ḥ kham) drāvayati iti Rudra ḥ ” means Rudra is the one who melts away sorrow .
